Collections

Johnsburg Historical Society has the privilege and responsibility of collecting, organizing and maintaining precious collections of textiles, large and small artifacts, photos, documents and publications. Also included among our collections are several large, rare “crayon portraits” which are unique examples of early photography.

Our extensive photo collection data has been entered into our Past Perfect computer program. Each photo entrusted to us is scanned twice, once just for the record and then at a higher resolution and stored off-site as an archival back-up to the original. Images can be reproduced if the original is lost or destroyed. Then data text is entered with each photo. This enables us to locate a specific photo among the more than 1000 in our collection. These files are backed up in our hard drive and also on discs which are stored in a fireproof safe at the Johnsburg Town Hall.
